The Studio

DS.16 is one of eight design studio groups in the Graduate Diploma in Architecture course at the University of Westminster. It has been running since 2003. Professor Murray Fraser has taught the unit for several years and has run it with Anthony Boulanger of AY Architects since 2007. The primary interest of the unit is in cultural theory and patterns of human behaviour in cities, and each year a contemporary theme of interest is described in the brief. Students are asked to respond to this theme and devise novel and unique responses on an appropriate site of their own choosing in London. Recent project themes have included ‘The Urban Animal’, ‘Street Life’ & ‘Stealth Ecology’.

Recent successes by DS.16 students include:

  • Tom Jenkins, RIBA President’s Medals, iGuzzini Prize, 2004
