The Sun Store ® Appreciating London’s Invisible Workers
The project proposes a new experiential vision for the City; through the development of a network of lighting installations radiating from a central Sun Store ® designed for London’s nocturnal population.
The network involves a number of scaled installations aimed at improving the working life of the City’s Nightworkers. For example, the phone [light] box
Could phone boxes not be transformed into artificial daylight stations? Just 15 minutes of artificial daylight during the night has been shown to improve alertness dramatically. Bus stops and deserted alleyways also provide opportunities for improved to lighting conditions linked to nocturnal cycles.

A place to for everyone regardless of time
There it is always time for breakfast or dinner, a stroll in the sunshine or an afternoon nap
A place to socialise
A place to eat
A place for stimulation
A place for rest
A place for health
The project proposes a physiological architecture which acts on space by transforming its electro-magnetic make-up, stimulating and suppressing the body’s natural rhythms. The scheme aims to provide parallel environments which are out of sync with normal solar, biological and social time.
The spaces shall be defined climatically by light by bringing day and night into visible space.
But these spaces are not just simulated artificial environments but interpretations of the particularities of daytime – the phenomenology of daytime.
